We have this saying that we like to live by—“united in belief.” It inspires my husband Murray and I to seek ways in which we can engage with our community to work towards a common goal. Because we know that when we work together, anything is possible.
That same sense of passion and unity is what our hospitals and caregivers need right now in order to feel supported.
That’s why we are inviting our community to join us in championing the Victoria Hospitals Foundation’s Giving Tuesday initiative, It’s More than Just a Bed. This one-day-only campaign has a goal of funding up to 12 new Emergency Department beds to help Royal Jubilee Hospital emerge stronger from the pandemic. Murray and I will be personally matching donations up to a total of $12,000 to unite donors and encourage them to give on this particular day.
This is our way of giving back to the compassionate, world-leading care teams and the many programs they contribute to in our hospitals. It moves us deeply to know that despite great challenges, they continue to show up every day, caring for our families and loved ones. We applaud them.
We have always been aware of the need for our community to support healthcare, it’s something that has driven our support of many worthy causes in our lifetime. When we give through the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, we know we are strengthening the two largest referral hospitals on Vancouver Island—we feel as though we are touching more lives and benefitting the greatest number of people in our community.
We have such a connected community in Greater Victoria. There’s a strong sense of pride in the relationships we foster here with our friends and colleagues. That feeling becomes even more pronounced when we come together to support a singular cause like Giving Tuesday.
Our hospitals provide comfort, care and hope to so many people at the most vulnerable times in their lives. By supporting It’s More than Just a Bed, you can help bring that comfort too. Together, we are “united in belief.” Together, we have the power to make a true difference.
