Miracle Gala 2025: Transforming Women’s Health, One Miracle at a Time

Victoria General Hospital (VGH) is more than the Westshore’s main hospital—it is Vancouver Island’s acute centre for women’s health and home to Island Health’s gynecological oncology program. This life-saving program began 15 years ago with the support of generous donors, ensuring that women facing complex gynecological conditions receive state-of-the-art care close to home. It was the province’s second program of its kind.

Over the years, VGH’s women’s health program has grown significantly, expanding from five gynecologists to 17 and from a single gynecologic oncologist to a team of three. Today, more than 2,100 women rely on gynecological care at VGH annually, including 500 who require specialized oncology treatment. With its rapid growth and leading expertise, VGH has cemented its reputation as a centre of excellence in women’s health, but the need continues to rise: over the past decade, gynecological cancer rates have surged by nearly 50%. It is crucial that we come together to ensure more women across the Island Health region receive timely, life-saving cancer care.

At this year’s Miracle Gala, we have the opportunity to propel women’s healthcare forward. Together, we will raise critical funds to equip our gynecology team with best-in-class technology to elevate minimally invasive surgical procedures, advance cancer care, and expand VGH’s gynecology program. With the latest in surgical imaging, precision oncology tools, and innovative minimally invasive techniques, our gynecology team can provide better care, faster recoveries, and a future where every woman receives the best possible treatment, close to her home and her support system.

This is more than an investment in equipment—it’s a revolution in care. As the largest gynecology investment in the Foundation’s history, this initiative is part of the It’s Time campaign, the Victoria Hospitals Foundation’s boldest endeavor to drive advancements in our Victoria hospitals.
