Caring Spirit: RJH Emergency Department
Congratulations to RN Janine Gerrits, Dr. Alexandra Otto, and RN Lindsay Winters (not pictured) of Royal Jubilee Hospital on each receiving a Caring Spirit award! A grateful patient made a donation in their honour after an experience in their care. The donor’s generosity will directly help to continue and improve patient care. Thank you.
Royal Jubilee Hospital is the largest tertiary hospital on Vancouver Island, providing comprehensive hospital and emergency care to all 765,000 residents of Vancouver Island and patients from throughout BC. Specializing in cardiac, cancer and mental health care, the Royal Jubilee Hospital served more than 90,000 patients last year.
The 37-acre Royal Jubilee Hospital campus is home to a state-of the art Diagnostic and Treatment Centre and the eight-storey Patient Care Centre, which provides a healing environment for 14,000 patients a year staying in hospital during their diagnosis and recovery. The campus is also host to the BC Cancer Agency, ensuring that patients with cancer receive seamless treatment.
The Emergency Department is the Island’s referral center for cardiac, respiratory, renal, vascular and oncology services. It also provides our region’s Psychiatric Emergency Services at the Archie Courtnall Centre for patients arriving in emergency at the Royal Jubilee Hospital with mental health and addiction challenges.
On Vancouver Island, the Royal Jubilee Hospital has the only cardiac care program, operates the only Burn Unit and is the main dialysis centre for kidney patients.
The Royal Jubilee Hospital stays on the leading-edge of advanced care practices by encouraging research and serving as a teaching hospital. Medical students with the University of British Columbia and University of Victoria receive clinical training in lecture theaters equipped with video conference technology and clinical skills rooms.
Royal Jubilee Hospital is the first recorded hospital in Victoria. It continues to evolve to meet current medical standards and our community’s healthcare needs.
The Victoria Hospitals Foundation would like to thank the Caring Spirit donor for her generous gift and congratulate RN Janine Gerrits, Dr. Alexandra Otto, and RN Lindsay Winters on this incredible distinction! Service like theirs immeasurably improves quality of life for patients on Vancouver Island.
