Dr. Paul Winston is an internationally-respected researcher & clinician based here in Victoria. His innovative treatment method for spasticity — a neurological condition which causes muscles to painfully contract — has been able to restore mobility and quality of life for many patients like Cynthia. This treatment, known as cryoneurolosis, provides relief that is longer-lasting and less expensive than any other option to date.

The Neil and Susan Manning Cognitive Health Initiative is an innovative clinical research program that integrates leading-edge research and care for patients living with cognitive health issues on Vancouver Island. By embedding research into care, clinicians can offer new and targeted treatment options to patients, and continuously improve treatment and prognosis for patients and their families.
Internationally-renowned local researcher & clinician, Dr. Paul Winston, is leading an innovative new treatment for spasticity: a painful disabling condition that robs people of the use of their limbs. Dr. Winston’s team has developed a non-surgical treatment to deep-freeze nerves with nitrous oxide gas using a tiny probe through the skin. The result is muscle relaxation, restored function, and improved quality of life for many patients.
The Health Equity Initiative is a partnership of VHF and Island Health, funded by the Victoria Foundation, to develop projects that advance health equity and eliminate health disparities by improving outcomes and access to health care services for equity-deserving groups. Projects will create new health knowledge or evidence, and apply existing knowledge or evidence in innovative ways to advance equity. Affected populations will share their lived experiences in the planning, research, and evaluation process.
Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death for Canadians. Royal Jubilee Hospital’s Vascular Risk & Prevention Clinic (VRPC) focuses on early intervention to reduce the development and severity of CVD. Offering advanced prevention therapies, enhanced diagnostic procedures, and a variety of cardiac programs for patients at the highest levels of risk, the VRPC not only saves lives, but reduces the strain on our healthcare system by addressing CVD before acute care is needed.
