More Than 2,600 Islanders Receive Inpatient Cancer Care At Royal Jubilee And Victoria General Hospitals Each Year
Our experts treat cancer patients with a combination of surgery, medication, radiation, chemotherapy, and hormonal therapy, with the goal of increasing chances of remission, extending lifespans, and improving quality of life. Your support funds the purchase of advanced equipment to help ensure every patient receives the highest level of cancer care possible.
“With the help of generous donors to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, I can reassure our patients that the community is funding the leading-edge equipment my team needs to ensure we can provide the most advanced and innovative care.”
— Dr. Roy Cheung, Surgical Oncologist
Nearly 1 in 2 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
With the right equipment we can quickly diagnose the disease and dramatically improve the chances of full recovery.
Our hospitals rank among the world’s best for cancer outcomes
Odds are that you know or will know someone dealing with cancer. We can take comfort in knowing that BC hospitals (including Royal Jubilee and Victoria General hospitals, Vancouver Island’s specialty oncology centres) rank near the top globally for cancer outcomes.
Royal Jubilee hosts the region’s radiotherapy and radio immunotherapy units, as well as one of BC Cancer Agency’s six full-service cancer centres. Victoria General houses the Island’s Breast Health Centre, to screen and diagnose breast cancer. It is also responsible for most child oncology treatments on Vancouver Island.
Our care teams are involved in every aspect of cancer care, from prevention and diagnosis, to consultation, therapy, and rehabilitation. As a patient, you can feel confident that our integrated approach—involving oncologists, nurses, therapists, pathologists, pharmacists, dieticians, and counsellors—will deliver the best care possible.
Equipment and innovation have brought huge leaps in cancer care
Over the last decade, advanced equipment and innovation have enabled our cancer care team to improve early detection, administer the latest treatment, respond to emergencies, and manage medication side effects. For example, Royal Jubilee Hospital’s Patient Care Centre has three lead-lined rooms for radio immunotherapy—a new chemotherapy targeting specific sites in the body at a molecular level.

Partnership with the BC Cancer Agency
The teams at Royal Jubilee Hospital and the BC Cancer Agency work in tandem to provide cancer diagnosis and intervention. If patients are not stable enough to go to home at the end of their BC Cancer Agency visit, they will often be direct admitted to Royal Jubilee Hospital. This helps to keep many cancer patients out of the emergency department. When someone is receiving treatment at the BC Cancer Agency and then need to come to the hospital, they often will be seen by the same doctor. Physicians are on the unit in Royal Jubilee Hospital in the morning, and then following up with outpatients across the street at BC Cancer Agency the rest of the day. This continuity in care is a huge benefit.
Help us continue to deliver the best outcomes for cancer patients
Alongside care teams, advanced equipment is fundamental for providing the best chances of positive outcomes. With your donation to cancer care, we can invest in equipment that supports our oncology team as they continue to deliver the highest possible standard of care.
