In Loving Memory of Karlyn Langridge
(April 30th, 1995 – December 28th, 2023)
Karlyn Langridge was more than just a coworker; she was a cherished friend and a source of inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey through life was driven by dedication to her work, a passion for helping others, her love of nature, and her passion for artistry.
Karlyn’s path in healthcare began with volunteering at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, Ontario, where she embraced the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. Her compassion and commitment to helping her community was evident from the beginning, and set her on a course towards a career in diagnostic medical sonography.
Graduating from the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at Cambrian College in 2016, Karlyn travelled across the country to the small community of Powell River. There she worked in the Powell River General Hospital, where she was a dedicated sonographer and a beloved colleague. Her coworkers would describe her as bright, vibrant, and full of optimism. Living in a small cabin by the beach, Karlyn immersed herself in both her work and her love for nature. Her tales of wildlife encounters became relished by her colleagues, who were captivated by her adventurous spirit.
From Powell River, Karlyn’s career took her to Comox in April 2018, where she continued to make a positive impact at the Comox Valley Hospital. Karlyn dedicated countless hours sharing her wealth of knowledge and experience, by patiently mentoring and guiding sonography students. She was loved by fellow sonographers, and always went above and beyond for her patients.
In 2020, Karlyn brought her passion and expertise to Victoria, where she joined the team at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. Her positive influence extended far beyond the confines of the hospital, making many friends and touching countless lives with her warmth, kindness, and infectious smile. Karlyn was more than just a dedicated healthcare professional. She possessed a diverse array of passions and talents. Through her nurturing and loving nature she grew an impressive plant nursery, tenderly cared for her cats, and skillfully refurbished antique furniture. She was also a gifted artist who drew inspiration from the beauty of nature, and whose paintings and sketches illustrated her extraordinary ability to breathe life into her creations.
Tragically, Karlyn’s journey was cut short while on vacation with her beloved partner Colin Hearnshaw. She is survived by her parents Katherine and Ron Langridge and her brother Kyle Langridge. Although she may be gone from our world, her memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Karlyn’s legacy is one of compassion, beauty, and unwavering dedication to making the world a better place. Though she will be dearly missed, her virtues will continue to inspire and guide us to fill our lives with beauty, love, and compassion.
Rest in peace, dear Karlyn. Your spirit will live on.
