May 2021
Last July, avid runner and Victoria Hospitals Foundation supporter, Yana Hempler ran 10 marathons in 10 days to raise funds for our It’s Critical campaign to nearly double critical care capacity at Royal Jubilee Hospital. Yana surpassed her fundraising goal of $10,000 and raised an incredible $35,000!
If running 10 marathons in 10 days wasn’t hard enough, Yana has embarked on an incredible running journey to continue raising funds for our hospitals greatest needs. Throughout the month of May 2021, Yana will attempt to run a marathon every day to complete her challenge of running 30 marathons in 30 days! Yana will begin each day between 6-7 am and run a 42km stretch along the Galloping Goose Trail between Tillicum Road and Saanich Road, making this event challenging both physically and mentally.
“This will be the biggest challenge I will undertake to date. It will be more marathons in 30 days than I have done in my entire life since I start running in 2012. It will be very hard but I am hoping that encouragement, support, and donations to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation will help me get through this, even when the going gets tough (because it will)!”
Donations can be made here through Just Giving, with an electronic tax deductible receipt sent to your email right away. Right now, Yana’s plan is to start the marathons on May 1 and finish on May 30. If Yana surpasses her fundraising goal of $500,000 she will do a final marathon on May 31 (even if she has to crawl to do it, she says!).
